On Thursday, April 28, Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater paid a visit to RCSA. Currently, Mr. Atwater has a team developing an online Financial Literacy curriculum that was tested out with a focus group of select RCSA high school students. These students spent time beta testing the financial literacy modules before providing feedback to the developers of the curriculum about the formatting and application of the material from a student’s perspective. During his visit, he explored an engineering project in our high school art classroom, he participated in a number of the Science Olympiad team projects, and sat in on classes in Civics, Language Arts, and Biology. Mr. Atwater's Financial Literacy curriculum hopes to be up and running for students in the state of Florida soon, thanks to the help and input from RCSA students.

City Council Member Matt Schellenberg visited RCSAJust recently, River City Science Academy had the opportunity to welcome another member of the Jacksonville City Council, Matt Schellenberg. He joined our principal and Public Relations Director for the traditional tour of the school where he was invited into classrooms and introduced to some of the teachers and what the students were learning. To allow others the opportunity to learn about him, Rocketfuel productions interviewed him to ask him questions about his position in the council, what his career is, and to give some advice to our viewers. Matt Schellenberg responded to the questions by describing the duties of the council and how helping the community is a big part of what he does. He also told the viewers about his career as a specialist in repairs or refinishing of furniture for corporations and private individuals. Then, for our viewers, he shared a word of advice for when it comes to deciding what you want to do in which he says to do what your good at: to find your strengths and go for it. Afterwards, he sat down for breakfast with them and discussed a few topics before being interviewed by Rocketfuel productions. Bishop was asked about his duties being a City Council member where he responded giving viewers a little insight on his role in the “policy making legislative of the city.” He talks about how the council can either vote on official laws or agree on things called resolutions where the council just agrees on things they would like to happen. Further on in the interview Bishop was also asked about his architecture career in which he states he had wanted to do since he was in eighth grade.
