  • SATThe SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) is the nation's most widely used college admission test. The SAT is the first step towards higher education for students. It gives both the student and the college an idea of the students' academic ability and readiness for college. Here at RCSA, we believe in preparing our students for this experience. We have dedicated teachers who will work with students in the 3 areas examined; reading, writing, and math. Each week the instructors will challenge the students on their knowledge and introduce them to new strategies and ways of thinking, better preparing them for the exam. The course also introduces the student to a new set of skills and a habit of lifelong learning.

  • River City Science Academy STEMScience is the “S" in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education. We define STEM education as the preparation of students in competencies and skills in the four disciplines (science, technology, engineering, and math). A successful STEM education provides students with science, math, and engineering/technology in sequences that build upon each other and can be used with real-world applications.
STEM education creates critical thinkers, increases science literacy, and enables the next generation of innovators. Innovation leads to new products and processes that sustain our economy. This innovation and science literacy depend on a solid knowledge based on the STEM areas. It is clear that most jobs of the future will require a basic understanding of math and science—10-year employment projections by the U.S. Department of Labor show that of the 20 fastest growing occupations projected for 2014, 15 of them require significant mathematics or science preparation.

  • FTC is designed for students in grades 7-12 to compete head to head, using a sports model. Teams are responsible for designing, building, and programming their robots to compete in an alliance format against other teams. The robot kit is reusable from year-to-year and is programmed using a variety of languages. Teams, including coaches, mentors and volunteers, are required to develop strategy and build robots based on sound engineering principles. Awards are given for the competition as for well as for community outreach, design, and other real-world accomplishments. Read More..

  • Science Olympiad is a competition for elementary, middle, and high school students.  Currently, Florida Science Olympiad organize regional and state competitions for middle and high school students and a separate elementary competition for local school districts as requested.  Teams that compete are comprised of up to 15 students, lead by one teacher called a coach, who compete in 23 different events.  The events are in physics, chemistry, earth space science, biology and engineering.  Students engage in hands-on, interactive, inquiry-based activities that are lab-based, research-based, or prebuilt.
